Finance The Finance Committee reviews the monthly financial statements, oversees the development of an annual budget and makes other financial recommendations to the board. The Finance Committee meets as needed. The Finance Committee will have two subcommittees: Audit and Budget. For more information about the Finance Committee, click here.
Legislative Affairs The Committee meets on a monthly schedule. Its primary function is to monitor governmental matters that could impact the community or local business, present recommendations to the Chamber's Board of Directors, and to assist in the initiation of the appropriate action. The Committee usually meets on the third Thursday of each month at 8 a.m. For more information about the Legislative Affairs Committee, click here.
Marketing The Committee meets on a monthly schedule. Its primary function is to market Marion and the Chamber in order to increase awareness of the opportunities and activities in Marion. The Committee usually meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 8 a.m. For more information about the Marketing Committee, click here.
Membership The Committee meets on a monthly schedule. The committee coordinates activities and programs of work to promote new members and value-added services to existing members. The Committee usually meets on the third Tuesday of each month at noon. For more information about the Membership Committee, click here.
Annual Dinner The Committee is responsible for coordinating the entertainment, menu, decorations, etc. The Annual Dinner is held in January each year. The Committee meets as needed from August-February.
Awards The Committee is responsible for selecting the Marion Chamber of Commerce for the Business/Industry of the Year, Distinguished Chamber Member, Citizen of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, and other awards. They co-ordinate the Mayor's Service award with the City of Marion. These awards are presented at the Annual Dinner. The Committee meets as needed in the fall.
Bass Tournament The Committee is responsible for coordinating the annual Bass Tournament, which usually takes place in the spring. The Committee meets as needed from January-April.
Community Day The Committee is responsible for all planning and coordination of the Community Day Block Party. The event is usually held in late summer/early fall. The Committee meets as needed based on the event date.
Golf Scramble The Committee is responsible for soliciting door prizes, sponsors and goody bag items, as well as selecting the menu. The Committee meets as needed from June-October.
Graduation Spree The Committee is responsible for all planning, fund-raising and coordination of activities for the drug/alcohol free celebration for the Marion High School graduating seniors. The Grad Spree event takes place on the night of Marion High School Graduation. The Committee meets as needed from January-June.
Live2Lead Southern Illinois The Committee is a subcommittee of the Membership Committee. Live2Lead Southern Illinois is a facilitated leadership conference that is part of Leadership Marion. The Committee is responsible for onsite planning, and promotional programs. Live2Lead usually takes place in October, so the committee meets as needed from March-November.
Nominating The Marion Chamber of Commerce Nominating Committee’s mission is to nominate from the members of the Marion Chamber of Commerce a minimum of one (1) candidate for each vacancy to be voted on for members of the Board of Directors.
The Nominating Committee Chair is the Secretary of the Board of Directors. Members of the Committee include the Chair of the Board, 1st Vice Chair of the Board, 2nd Vice Chair of the Board, Chair of the Membership Committee, Executive Director and volunteers from the Board of Directors and General Membership of the Marion Chamber of Commerce. The Nominating Committee must have at least five members appointed by the Chair of the Board of Directors at least thirty (30) days prior to the election.
An announcement is made at the October luncheon that the nomination process has started. Consideration shall be given in selecting these candidates, that any Marion Chamber of Commerce members with more than 100 employees will be represented by having a member on the Board, if possible. Said committee shall file a list of the nominees recommended with the elected Secretary no later than fifteen (15) days before the election. Possible nominations other than the ones recommended by the committee, may be made by any member via written communication to the Executive Director no later than fifteen (15) days before the election. Elections will take place in November.
Remuneration The Committee is responsible for the review of the remuneration of the Chamber's staff. The Committee meets as needed from August-December.
Scholarship The Committee is responsible for awarding the Grad Spree Scholarship and the John A. Logan Two Year Tuition Waiver based on the amount of money generated by the fund raising efforts from the previous year. The committee has a set of guidelines for each scholarship.
Sister City The Committee is a subcommittee of the Marketing Committee and works to celebrate the relationship between Marion and Kanie Town Japan. The committee works on the alternating visits between the two communities and student/host family experiences. The committee begins to meet 6 months prior to the upcoming visit after the Marketing Committee meeting.
