The Marion Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the finalists for the 2019 Young Professional Leader Award. Tyler Young, along with Amanda Newlin and Laura Chairez, have been nominated for this year's award. Our finalists have been nominated by fellow chamber members and selected by the Awards Committee.
Tyler Young, his wife Lacey, and their children Callen and Ellery live in Marion. As a lifelong resident of Marion, Tyler graduated from of Marion High School in 2000 and the University of Illinois in 2004. Prior to purchasing the company from the retiring owners in 2014, Tyler worked at Pieces of Learning for 10 years in many different capacities. In the last five years of ownership Tyler has opened two additional businesses - The Print Shop at Pieces of Learning and The Teacher Store at Pieces of Learning. These two arms of Pieces of Learning supply commercial promotional items and supplemental educational materials to Marion and its surrounding community.
Outside of the businesses, Tyler volunteers as a youth soccer coach and Marion Soccer board member, helps with his son’s youth baseball team, volunteers at the Marion Elks, and helps organize volunteers for the Southern Illinois Chili Cook Off – raising $30K for local charities this year. Tyler spends his free time with his family and enjoying the outdoors. Pieces of Learning has been a member of the Marion Chamber of Commerce for four years. When asked about his award nomination: “It is an enormous honor just to be nominated for this award! I love the opportunities that I have been granted to impact the local community through volunteering and having a locally owned business. I have worked very hard to accomplish what I have so far (with many more goals still to reach) and this gives me a sense that I am moving in the right direction.”
Our finalists have been nominated by fellow chamber members and selected by the Awards Committee.
