Illinois Army National Guard's 130TH Infantry Regiment
11427 Minuteman Road · Marion, IL 62959
p. 618-638-4032 · f.

The Illinois Army National Guard's 130TH Infantry Regiment enjoys a long and distinguished history of service to the United States.

Our stated mission is close with, engage, and kill the enemy in close combat through shock, firepower, and maneuver.  One of the oldest regiments in the United States' order of battle, the Black Hawks have fought with valorous distinction in every single American war.  Serving as French colonial militia during the French and Indian War, we met the British and her allies on the field of battle and forced the surrender of then-Colonel George Washington at Fort Necessity.

We spent the American Revolution as ranging with George Rogers Clark through the Northwest Territory, raiding British outposts while defending our homes. We would return to Canada during the War of 1812, invading several times with the ebb and flow of war.

In the company of a young Captain Abraham Lincoln, we pursued and captured Chief Black Hawk and his Sauk tribe rebels, an action from which we take our name as the nickname as the Army's Black Hawk Regiment.

We joined Winfield Scott on the Long Walk during the Mexican War, fighting hard at Veracruz and Cerro Gordo.  We took an interesting war trophy that time - the peg leg of Santa Ana, and it's still proudly on display.

We fought through the Civil War at Vicksburg, the Wilderness Campaign, Chattanooga, and Forts Henry and Donnelson.  While other Union troops fled, we held the line at Shiloh, gave them time to regroup, and go on to win the day.  For our renown, General Sherman would specifically task us to spearhead his March to the Sea and the Sack of Atlanta.

We went to the Philippines during the Spanish War, and stayed on for the insurrection.  It was here our regiment crafted the insignia of the 33rd Infantry Division, the Golden Cross, originally as a symbol to terrorize the insurrectionists - gold as a color taboo to the Muslim Moros, and the cross indicative of the unit being predominantly Christian in faith.

We fought through the Somme, Lorraine, Meuse-Argonne, and Picardy sectors during the Great War, and have the honored distinction of being the only Allied unit to never withdraw, and never request reinforcement.

We returned to the Pacific in the Second World War, fighting across the breadth of New Guinea and Morotai, and spearheading the amphibious landings to wrest Luzon from the Japanese.  We froze in Korea, and supplied the Army with replacements in Vietnam.  We deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq several times over.  We have our Medals of Honor and Distinguished Service Crosses, but we left far more inverted rifles, helmets, and dog tags in every corner of the globe.

Short of warfighting, we have no greater mission than to recruit, train, and prepare as the United States' force of choice in any future conflict. Community support and organizational buy-in are key to bolstering individual Soldier, and therefore unit, readiness and effectiveness.  As business and civic leaders, we turn to you as the civilian center of gravity for our area Troops, and hope through an understanding of our capabilities and core competencies, we will gain your endorsement in meeting our mission.
